It’s the same pattern year after year, the
groups of eager vacationers start flocking
to our small seaside town at the end of May
and with the arrival of mid-August the
streets of Falmouth begin to clear once
again. Schools and colleges are beginning,
and with the departure of the many tourists
and their children also come the departure
of those boys of summer, the Falmouth
Commodores.
The ‘08 Commodores had a lot in common with
the ‘07 team. The players wore those same
pinstriped uniforms. They had the same tried
and true group of fans, those people that
have come to support them day after day,
year after year. When they hit a ball foul a
group of kids would flock after the ball
this summer just as they did last. But most
importantly they had a terrific season that
led them to the post-season playoffs, just
as it did in the summer of ‘07.
The team started its season in mid-June with
a bang. The Commodores made a 9-2 winning
debut in an away game again the Wareham
Gatemen. However, after that first match-up,
wins didn’t seem to come as easily the
Commodores. Although they took nearly half
(6 of 13) games played in June they were
down to 4th place in the Western
division when the beginning of July rolled
around.
But if one attribute can be applied to the
‘08 season’s team is was drive. By the time
the much anticipated All-Star break arrived
at the end of July, Falmouth had topped the
standings and made it to first place in the
Western division.
Helping the team was the players selected
for spots on the All-Star team Jimmy Cesario,
Trevor Coleman, Chris Gloor, AJ Pollock, and
Ben Tootle.
